Middleton Beach, South West

Middleton Beach

Photo Gallery Photo Gallery

Middleton Beach is a suburb located at the coastal part of Albany in Western Australia. It is a popular destination for holiday makers who wish to enjoy the sun and sand. The suburb was named after Captain Middleton during the early part of the 19th century.

The beach fronting the suburb is considered a safe spot for swimming and other water-based recreational activities, such as boating, sailing, jet skiing, and water skiing. This is because the beach is protected by the King George Sound. This has caused a number of hotels and other forms of accommodations to be established along the Esplanade.

Middleton Beach is also an ideal location for those wishing to go whale watching. During their migration, some whales even enter the sheltered waters of the Middleton Bay to rest. This has provided ample opportunities for visitors and locals to view these marine giants up close.

Middleton Beach is also a good destination for fishing. Boats can also be hired for those who are interested in spending a day of deep sea fishing. There are also several excellent diving sites that are located near Middleton Beach and can be explored by scuba diving enthusiasts. One of the more popular dive sites is the wreck of HMAS Perth, which cater to those experienced in wreck dives. Another good dive site alternative is the wreck of Cheynes 1V.

Snorkeling is also a popular activity in Middleton Beach, with the bay teeming with marine creatures that are visible through the clear waters.

The stretch of sand fronting Middleton Beach is also ideal for kites surfing and during summer season, the skies over the beach are decorated with different shapes and colors.

Apart from the beach, there are also several land-based attractions that visitors to Middleton Beach can enjoy. One is a trip to the Lake Seppings, a freshwater lake located adjacent to the suburb. There are several footpaths and wooden walkways surrounding the lake, providing ease for those wishing to explore this body of water. There are also numerous water birds that frequent the lake, making it ideal for bird watching. For this particular activity, a wooden bird hide was constructed on the lake's western side. Lake Seppings is surrounded by a nature reserve that provides ample opportunities for outdoor recreation.

Within the Middleton Beach suburb is the Albany Golf Club, which caters to local and visiting golf enthusiasts. It is also an ideal destination for those wishing to enjoy a bit of the outdoors without leaving the suburban setting.

Another interesting destination for the whole family is the Whale World, located along the Frenchman Bay Road, south of Middleton Beach. This attraction is housed within the last operating whaling station in the state, and features exhibits related to the whaling industry.

Also located a short distance south of Middleton Beach is Mount Clarence, where the War Memorial is located. The area is suitable for those wishing to go bushwalking, animal viewing, and bird watching. There are also several lookouts that afford spectacular views of the King George Sound and the coastline.
