Metricup, South West
Metricup is a rural area located in the South West region of Western Australia. It is also situated within what is considered as the Margaret River Wine Region, because of the numerous wineries and vineyards established in the area.
Included in the list of distinguished wineries in the area is Beckett''s Flat boutique winery located on the corner of Russell Highway and Beckett Road. The winery focuses on producing high quality white and red wines. It opens its cellar door to visitors who wish to sample them and enjoy the distinctly rural yet serene ambience of the vineyard.
Another winery worth a visit is the Cape Lavender, situated on Carter Road. This certified award-winning winery produces more than just fine wine products. It also features a lavender shop, a lavender nursery where visitors can purchase their own plant, lavender gardens which visitors can explore at leisure, and a man-made lake filled with trout.
When visitors stop by the Woody Nook winery, they not only get to taste their fine wine products but also get to enjoy the delicious meals served at the restaurant within its premises. The winery also sits on a picturesque landscape, with wooded areas behind it. This affords visitors to enjoy the spectacular scenery while enjoying good food and tasty wines. This estate can be accessed via the Metricup Road.
On the corner of Metricup and Carter Roads is the Knotting Hill Estate, a newly established winery that is slowly gaining recognition as a producer of fine wine products. Apart from wine tasting, another highlight for visitors to enjoy is fish feeding at its man-made lake that is well-stocked with marron, rainbow trout, and silver perch.
For those wishing to enjoy the outdoors, visitors can head out to the Carbunup River, which runs alongside Metricup and empties into Geographe Bay. There are a lot of spots along the river that are ideal for picnics and leisurely strolls.
The Wardan Aboriginal Cultural Centre is an attraction located northwest of Metricup. The center focuses on the culture of the Wardandi, a local Aboriginal group. The center also showcases Aboriginal art, locally-made crafts, and holds demonstration of Aboriginal dances.
The whole family will surely enjoy a visit to the Simmo's Icecreamery and Fun Park. Located on Commonage Road, this attraction is a known producer of delicious, freshly-made ice cream that is available in 39 flavors. Apart from offering mouth-watering ice cream, there are also several highlights in visiting the park, with the presence of a mini golf-course and an extensive picnic area.
A short drive west of Metricup will bring visitors to the coastline and to several white sand beaches. These strips of sand are ideal for swimming, snorkeling, and scuba diving. There are also ideal spots for fishing and surfing.
South of Metricup and along the Caves Road are the famous Mammoth Cave and Lake Cave. These caves are popular tourist attractions in the area, open for tours. Guides are always on hand to provide information and lead visitors deep into the natural chambers. Lake Cave, in fact, is considered a cave with extraordinarily beautiful interiors.
