Coral Coast, Western Australia

Because the coast is teeming with a wide diversity of marine life, there are several attractions that offer visitors chance to view them. Such is the Kalbarri Aquarium, located at the Kalbarri Marine Centre. The aquarium features fishes of all imaginable shapes and colors, as well as sea crabs that normally live in the deeper part of the sea, giant crayfishes, eels, anemones, and sponges. This is one attraction which the whole family can visit and behold unique marine creatures up close.

There are also several non-coastal attractions located in Coral Coast. One is Butterabby Graves, located south of the town of Mullewa. The graves are reminders of a violent episode in the area's history that happened between Aboriginals and European settlers during the later part of the 19th century. The Mullewa Library has a book detailing the incident, in which two European settlers were killed and several Aboriginals were sentenced and executed for it.

Also in Mullewa is the Our Lady of Mount Carmel St. Peter and St. Paul Church, considered a building of fine architectural style. The church was designed by Monsignor John Hawes, which also designed and built the adjacent Priest House which functions as a museum containing his personal memorabilia.

There are also two similar attractions located in Dandaragan, though minus the violent history. These include the Catholic Cemetery was established in 1890 and the historical cemetery maintained by the Shire of Dandaragan.

Visitors should also the Carnarvon Heritage Precinct in Babbage Island. This attraction has three highlights--the Carnarvon One Mile Jetty, the Lighthouse Keeper's Cottage Museum, and the Carnarvon Tramway. The cottage was built in 1900 and showcases memorabilia related to local history.

Another historic attraction is the Hamelin Pool Telegraph Station, which started operating in 1884 as a relay station. Located on Hamelin Pool Road, the station is open to the public and showcases memorabilia used for telecommunications in the past.

Another interesting destination is Rainbow Jungle Parrot Breeding Centre, located along Red Bluff Road in Kalbarri. Apart from bird watching, the center is also an ideal outdoor attraction with its numerous tropical plants and waterfalls. Visitors also get to see some of the largest parrots ever bred in the world.

The Pioneer Park, located along Olivia Terrace in Carnarvon, used to be a cemetery that was converted into an outdoor attraction suitable for picnics and barbecues.

Another ideal outdoor destination in Coral Coast is the Alexander Morrison National Park. Located on a sandplain north of Perth, the park becomes abundant with wildflowers during winter to early summer. This national park is also suitable for bird watching and animal viewing.

Located in Three Springs are the Yarra Yarra Salt Lakes that are worth visiting because of its capacity to change colors. The lake system appears to be red-colored during summer and changes to green or azure blue during winter.
