Lakes Entrance, Gippsland — Victoria

Lakes Entrance is a popular tourist resort in the eastern part of Victoria in Australia. It is located along an artificial channel that links the Tasman Sea to the Bass Strait.

One of the attractions of Lakes Entrance is its beautiful beachfront that is quite safe for swimming and snorkeling. Fishing and surfing are also popular activities, with the beach constantly patrolled during most times of the year. There are also numerous boats that can be hired for a day of boating. When along the esplanade, visitors will also be entertained by wooden sculptures that represent the country during war. The restaurants lining the esplanade offer the freshest catch of the day and are good place to sit back and enjoy the resort’s holiday atmosphere and vibrant culture. The Esplanade is also where The Griffith’s Sea Shell Museum is located. The museum showcases a collection of nearly a hundred thousand sea shells, as well as the largest marlin ever caught and a large aquarium full of unusual sea creatures.

Children will surely enjoy their visits to the Kinkuma Country Fun and Fauna Park. Located along the Princes Highway, this attraction features two large water slides, a toboggan ride, a mini golf course, a playground, and a small wildlife park. There is also a souvenir shop for those wishing to purchase items to take home.

Lakes Entrance also boasts of a heritage structure, the Stony Creek Railway Bridge located north east of the area. The bridge is recognized as the largest standing wooden bridge in the country.

The resort is also an excellent starting point for those who wish to explore the Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park, located a short drive west of Lakes Entrance. This park is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts, with numerous trails that are excellent for bush walking. Picnic spots are also scattered all over the park, where visitors can sit down and relax in a completely serene environment. The lakes are also well-stocked, making it popular among avid fishermen. There are boat ramps located all over the waterways, with boats available for hire. To explore the Gippsland Lakes further, visitors can also take several cruises offered by tour operators. Hunters also come to this coastal park during season to indulge in their favorite pastime. Facilities for camping are also available. Countless birds also come to these waterways all year through, making it ideal for bird watching. Lucky visitors may even get to see dolphins that also visit this lake system several months in a year.

The coastal park is also adjacent to the Nyerimilang Heritage Park, composed of bush land, gardens and farmlands. This park features several walking tracks that lead to beautiful spots and breathtaking sceneries.

Visitors can also take a short drive north east to the town of Nowa Nowa where the Flame Trees Gallery is located. This establishment sells fine art works and offers art classes to interested individuals.
