Sorell is a service town located in Tasmania’s South Coast. It lies in the Tasman Highway and is better recognized in history as a chief site on the Hobart to Port Arthur route on the Tasman Peninsula. This area currently specializes in mixed farming, sheep and dairy produce.

This town is a haven for religious visitors. In fact, Sorell is home to three churches which are listed in the National Estate. Of these three churches, it is St. George's Anglican Church located in Gordon Street that is the most remarkable. It was put up back in 1826 and was even rebuilt in 1883. It is a quaint and beautiful stone-made, gothic-designed church that is a striking part of this town’s center.

The Scot's Church in Arthur Street is also part of the three churches listed in the National Estate. It was created during 1842 and was designed by James Blackburn. This Romanesque Revival-styled church was made of sandstone and it boasts of a central tall square tower, gabled roof, buttresses, and a semi-circular arch-topped foyer. The windows of this church are multi-paned with arched tops and there are also engaged columns found at the sides. Visitors would also marvel at its northern façade that includes an exceptional, central recessed window with flanking pillars in relief.

Guests would also appreciate the Roman Catholic Church, which is just a few steps away from the Scot's Church. This Gothic Revival structure is relatively small and simple and was made of sandstone.

Tourists should drop by the Sorell Fruit Farm while they are in town. The cool climate of the state gives additional flavor to the berry fruits produced here, which are the specialty of this farm. There is a wide array of berries available here. Since this is a pick-your-own farm, tourists can have a fun day choosing the fruits that they want. All fruits can be easily picked and there are picking containers on hand if needed. However, for those who do not want to pick their own fruits, picked fruits are readily available. Visitors would definitely have fun with a self-guided tour of this unique farm, free of charge. Guests could also go to their Café for a variety of scones, Devonshire tea and berry ice cream. If travelers would want to take home some goodies, there is a range of jams, picked fruit, pickles and vinaigrettes for sale.

Antique collectors would want to check out the Sorell Antiques Center. Guests can browse diverse antique and cottage furniture, glassware, militaria, china, ephemera, collectables, etc. This center measures 300 square meters and is run by twelve independent antique dealers in Tasmania.

Travelers could also go the Sorell Market before they even think of leaving. It has more than sixty stallholders who are selling a huge array of goods and it attracts hundreds of guests every week. People can purchase second hand goods, freshly-picked organic and even farm-grown fruits and vegetables, arts and crafts, antiques and collectables, native plants, wood turning, furniture, garden products and tools. The market often features children’s activities and food stalls are available where travelers can buy some snacks and drinks after their shopping.

There are numerous Sorell accommodation options to choose from around the town which include hotels, motels and hostels - everything you need to ensure your stay is a comfortable one.
