Oyster Cove, South Coast
Oyster Cove
Oyster Cove is located on the southern part of the state of Tasmania, Australia. It is nestled on the D’Entrecasteaux Channel opposite the Bruny Island. The area offers tourists a little privacy and is a very good place for boating, kayaking and other water sports. And of course, the cove and the surrounding area with its sandy white beaches and rock formations offers some of the best views ideal for photography.
The cove is just a small inlet of water no bigger than a bay and has been successfully sheltered and developed. This area is considered a historical aboriginal site and an education centre is located on the head of the cove which is said to have been once the home of Traguni.
Oyster Cove, due to its strategic location provides a more private vacationing spot compared to the beaches on the channel. Also, located on the cove are luxury Oyster Cove accommodation options that offer pristine views of the water. During the early hours, when the fog hasn’t settled yet, the yachts on the water are a site to look at. Tourists can just spend hours looking at the calm waters until the fog finally clears up. At the Oyster Cove, doing nothing can mean doing something.
The cove has a very laidback environment; guests can just take a leisurely day sitting on the sand watching the water and the boats pass by. Otherwise, fishing enthusiasts can try their luck and just might be surprised with their haul. The channel especially the neighboring island has lots to offer tourists. Guests visiting the Oyster Cove should immediately head out to Kettering at take a ferry ride to the famous Bruny Island located just opposite the cove. They have some of the best beaches ideal for swimming, kayaking and boating. Even the cruise there is a grand experience; as majestic as the serene waters of the D’Entrecasteaux Channel.
Otherwise, tourists can take a leisurely drive and enjoy the site of the channel right from the town where it starts. The highway is just located near the water and offers tourists a view of the pristine waters of D’Entrecasteaux Channel. First stop should be at Kingston, which is located further south in the outskirts of the central business district of Hobart. They offer tourists variety from the water attractions with their golf course and sports centre.
From Kingston, tourists should drive further north to Taroona which offers an even more spectacular view of the bay opposite the island. The township also boasts of a tower which tourists can climb up to forty eight meters high. To the right is a spectacular view of the channel with its busy yachts and boats, and to the left are rolling hills with its lush green foliage that offers almost the same tranquility as the water.
Even further north is the central business district of Hobart. They offer some of the best Australian and Seafood cuisines in Tasmania. What a better way to end a tour than a taste of delectable cuisines complemented with premier wines and spirits.
