Hobart, Tasmania

Hobart is a region that is composed of the state capital bearing the same name and its surrounding towns in Tasmania. Located southeast of the island state, Hobart boasts of both land-based and maritime attractions.

An example of which is the Maritime Museum of Tasmania, located at the corner of Davey and Argyle Streets. Read more...

The museum features the history of shipbuilding industry in the state, as well as its whaling activities in the past. There are also exhibitions related to naval warfare.

A similar attraction is the Kangroo Bluff Historic Site, which features the gun emplacement constructed in 1880. In the present times, the site draws visitors not only because of the battery guns but also to enjoy its scenic setting.

The Tasmanian Transport Museum features the New Town Railway Station, including the station master's office and signal room. The museum also features a collection of locomotives ranging from steam-powered to diesel-electric. The establishment, located along Anfield Street in the city of Hobart, also offers train rides during designated days.

The ZooDoo Wildlife Park is a popular family destination in Hobart. Situated on the Middle TeaTree Road in Richmond, the park is home to numerous animals native to Tasmania and the whole country. The park also has a miniature train that takes visitors around, while a miniature horse race is held regularly. Children, in particular, will enjoy the use of its jumping castle, Viking ship, and merry-go-round. Facilities for picnics and barbecues are also available.

Another historic structure is the Runnymede house, located north of the city of Hobart, in New Town. Built in 1836, it was restored by the National Trust, which also provided furnishings of the same timeline.

There are several vineyards and winery in the area. An example of which is the Moorilla Estate, along the Main Road in Hobart. The winery welcomes visitors for wine tasting, while tours around the property are also offered. The establishment also features the Moorilla Wine and Food Centre that displays excellent works of contemporary art.

For a bit of fun and relaxation, visitors can also stop by the Putters Adventure Golf in Moonah. This indoor mini golf course caters to all members of the family. While parents are at play, children can also make use of the nearby Adventure Playground.

There are several community events and festivals held in Hobart. One is the annual Blooming Tasmania, an event that brings together horticultural and botany enthusiasts from all over the state and the country. The event showcases several gardens in the area, while floral shows are also organized.

The Tasmanian Wine Festival, held every January in Bellerive, celebrates the fruit wine-making industry in the area. This is one event when wineries from all over the region exhibit their products and people get to sample and purchase them, if desired. There are also live music performances to enhance the festivity.

To experience Hobart at its best, there are many Hobart accommodation providers available to ensure all visitors enjoy a comfortable stay.
