This is just the place where they can live free since this is protected area. The animals most especially the kangaroos were first seen by the British explorer, Matthew Flinders, who also named the island in the year 1802. In fact, one-third of the island is considered as a national park. Because of its scenic views and active wildlife, thousands of visitors come to Kangaroo Island every year. Two days would be just not enough to see everything you need to see on Kangaroo Island.

About 110 kilometers or 70 miles southwest of the city of Adelaide, Kangaroo Island is dotted by small communities as well as wildlife. Kangaroo Island is the third largest island of Australia after Melville Island and Tasmania and just about 13 kilometers closer to the mainland. Although it only has coastline of 540 kilometers, activities do not run short on the island. The climate is also generally mild during the months of June and September, though the summer is said to be very dry and warm. Sometimes, temperatures in the coastline would reach about 35 degrees Celsius during the month of February which is considered the hottest month of the year, with temperatures ranging from 20 degrees Celsius to 25 degrees Celsius.

If there is one thing about Kangaroo Island that you would really not want to miss, it would be visiting the various national parks and protected areas teeming with wildlife. The scenery is excellent all throughout the year. Most popular among tourist destinations is the Seal Bay. This is a great place where you can watch sea lions in their natural habitat. The Flinders Chase National Park is another great place to visit. The lighthouses at Cape Borda and Cape du Couedic, Admiral's Arch, and Remarkable Rocks offer travelers the chance to see nature at a closer level aside from providing excellent trails for walking and camping sites. If you happen to visit the island, Kelly Hilly Caves and Cape Willoughby are two other places you might as well like to take a look at.

Coming to Kangaroo Island is never complete without a visit to the place locals would call Little Sahara, which is really a place of huge sand dunes on the southern part of the coast. Your camera film might as well want to capture a gorgeous view of the entire island on Mount Thisby, from the point of which a 360 degrees view of the island is seen. Don't forget to bird watch in the Murray Lagoon, a favorite sanctuary of migratory birds. Whichever way you start your vacation, Kangaroo Island has options that fit your travel needs.

American River is a town located in Kangaroo Island, on its Western Cove. The place-name was given during the early 19th century when American sealers camped out in the area for several months.

Parndana is a small town of Kangaroo Island in South Australia. The place-name translates into `The Place of Little Gums.'

The town is the site of the Soldier Settlement Scheme during the early 20th century.

Penneshaw is a town located in the northeastern part of Kangaroo Island in South Australia. The island's ferry service from Cape Jervis has its port in this town, thereby making it the major entry point for locals and tourists.

Kingscote is a town located in the region of Kangaroo Island. This is the largest city on this region off the seas of South Australia with around 1,200 residents. This is a popular tourist destination and is the oldest European settlement in South Australia.

Seal Bay is a small area located in the region of Kangaroo Island. This is situated on the Kangaroo Island’s south coast. Travelers can set out for Seal Bay by driving for forty to forty five minutes from Kingscote, the main town of Kangaroo Island.
