Middleton
Fleurieu Peninsula, South Australia, Australia
The town of Middleton is located in the region of Fleurieu Peninsula in South Australia. This town was named after the first white man who settled in this district. The other version of the origin of its name is that some residents believe it to have been derived from the words “Middle Town.” This is because the town is situated midway between Port Elliot and Goolwa on the railway line. Middleton started out as a post used for coach staging but has immensely improved since then. It is now the home of popular beaches and the recently restored Middleton Hotel and this town has become a well-known tourist destination. Read more...
Beach lovers would enjoy their time in Middleton. They can join a tour group named Surf and Sun. This is a relatively young, lively company that specializes in adventure tours or backpacker tours. They have tours like Learn to Surf at Middleton and even Sea Kayaking at the Victor Harbor on the magnificent Fleurieu Peninsula of South Australia.
If tourists are not keen on joining a group, they can head to the South Coast Surf Academy. It offers all guests who wanted to learn the art of surfing a chance to do so. But visitors need not fret since they would be given a chance to collect water memorabilia and take photographs while learning. It is not required to bring special gears since the South Coast Surf Academy would provide everything that the guests would need. Guests are requested to be in their bathing suits and have their own towels. The academy has supple Malibu surfboards and Roxy or Quicksilver wetsuits. The surfing instructors are accredited surfers. They are also approachable and some were even state champions in surfing. The lesson would last for around one to two hours and the guests would be taught about surf safety, ocean awareness and board handling. Children are welcome to also take the lesson.
When travelers are in Middleton, they would have the chance to see the Southern Right Whale and often, it can be viewed off the low cliffs of Middleton Point during the months of June to September. These whales can also be spotted at the Basham's Beach, which is between Port Elliot and Middleton.
Middleton’s beaches are also great sites for kite-flying. Visitors who are interested in this activity can drop by the Encounter Pathway. It is a shared bike path that runs along the foreshore that connects through to Victor Harbor.
Tourists who are spending several days in Middleton could stay at the Beach Huts Bed and Breakfast. They would be able to experience a charm and magic like no other. It is situated just an hour away from Adelaide, which is on the picturesque coastline of the southern Fleurieu Peninsula. People can relax on the deck of their independent cabins and also feel the ambiance of the small village. Travelers can play tennis, stroll around the striking cottage gardens or even take a leisurely walk to the local Middleton Beach.
