Goolwa is a town located near the mouth of the Murray River, in the southern end of South Australia. The town had been a major port of the river, while its southern part faces Encounter Bay. The place-name was derived from an Aboriginal word that means `elbow.'

The town places much importance and prestige on its heritage. This is manifested in the restoration and preservation of several historic buildings in town. In fact, an inner part of Goolwa was declared a State Heritage Site.

Situated within Jaralde Park, these markets are a good source of collectible items, old books, furniture, and many more. The town also boasts of its own golfing facility, the South Lakes Golf Club, which is accessed along Billabong Road. The sand dunes of Goolwa Beach provide beautiful backdrop to this 18-hole course with well-tended freeways and greens.
