Adelaide, South Australia

One thing about Adelaide that is truly unforgettable is the taste of the entire region in this South Australia coast in a single glass of wine. Wine connoisseurs, enthusiasts, or travelers who simply want to quench curious gustatory craving will never be disappointed with Adelaide. Read more...

Here the wine industry blossoms as much as its arts and festivals bring this famous South Australian capital, a spill of vibrancy and activities.

Adelaide may be a familiar name because the town got its name from Queen Adelaide, consort of King William IV, when it became a province of the British Empire in the Australian continent. While colonial Adelaide was reputed for its strong democratic foundation, today this coastal capital is known for its numerous activities, from gastronomic adventures to shopping to the simple joys of being able to relax in its quiet beaches in a hot summer day.

Right at the northernmost part of the Fleurieu Peninsula, Adelaide extends twenty kilometers from the coast to the foothills of the Mount Lofty Ranges. To the south, it meets Sellicks Beach, another town in Southern Australia near Aldinga. Home to the Adelaide Hills, which is the tallest point in the city, Adelaide is the direst among all Australian capital cities. Rarely would there be snowfall and frosts in this area, making it a specially good place to spend a vacation in the spring and autumn. With wild flowers blooming in this time of the year and the weather, stable and mild, the city is perfect for many outdoor activities, whether it is sports or having a picnic in its parks, Adelaide offers what nature has endowed it with.

Two of these "gifts" from nature are the nature reserves of the Cleland Conservation Park and Belair National Park. Twelve kilometers from Adelaide's busy center, the Cleland Conservation Park serves as habitat to wildlife and natural bushland preserved even after the city moved to the designs of its first engineer, Colonel William Light. Since then, it has served as a sanctuary to rare animal species including Australia's host of marsupials in its famous Cleland Wildlife Park. A drive around the park allows visitors to encounter wallabies, snake species, koalas, and emus.

The Belair National Park does not fall short in giving wildlife encounter experiences to the traveler. As the first national park in Australia, the Belair National Park has developed into a unique destination, perfect for recreation and nature exploration. It includes the Old Government House, Playford Lake, and the Adventure Playground, which is an excellent place for hiking and walking while admiring the park's flora and fauna.

If shopping, dining, and exhilarating wine drinking experience are what you came here for, Adelaide certainly will not frustrate you. With its line of restaurants and wine shops serving only authentic Adelaide dishes, you surely will be into one gastronomic adventure. Adventure may be a trite word, but there is definitely nothing trite about Adelaide; only exquisite hotels, resorts, and cottages in the most accessible part of the town plus vies and rich nature experiences await the traveler.
