Bowen is one of the oldest towns in the northern portion of Queensland, Australia and belongs to the Whitsundays region. It was established from 1861 until 1862. It was named after the first governor of the state. Compared to other towns in the country, there is only very few people who live in Bowen. Nevertheless, it never runs out of good things to offer to locals and tourists who are on a holiday.

With its colorful history, you will surely love to go to Bowen Historical Museum. You can find it in Gordon Street. As the name implies, it contains a lot of memorabilia that are related to the past. There are geological charts that trace the development of the area. You can also see relics of the Australian aborigines, who are actually the first settlers of the town. Other interesting finds include shipwrecks and artifacts from Gothenburg, a ship that sank in the Bowen seas during 1875.

Right next to the museum is a renovated cottage. It used to be built through the use of slabs. However, the cottage was destroyed and then restored for the sake of posterity. It already has become a museum, where you can find some old pieces of furniture.

You should also not miss out the murals that are displayed on the walls. They have been created by artists in Bowen. They add more life into the town and serve as perfect backdrop for the buildings and homes in the area. They can also form part of your walking tour.

When you want some peace and relaxation, you can start your sightseeing trip with Mullers Lagoon. It has been transformed into a public park, where anyone can just lay down their mats and have a small picnic. The grassy areas become a good makeshift playground for your children. There are also concrete pathways, so you can take a tour around the area safely. Of course, you have the lake, which is the highlight of the park.

For your Bowen accommodation, a good option will be the bed and breakfasts. Most of them are inexpensive, and they are cozy.
