The beautiful long white beach and its proximity to the Maroochy River Mouth makes the place ideal for a rich fishing catch. The beach area is also a hit among the surfers enjoying friendly waves.

The best place to visit here is the Old Woman or Mudjimba Island. Apart from surfing, the island is famous for its Aboriginal dreaming legend about a man called Coolum who fought Ninderry. Ninderry killed Coolum by decapitating him and stole his betrothed. Legend has it that Mudjimba Island is Coolum’s head. Recently, Mudjimba Island was in the news when decommissioned warship HMAS Brisbane was sunk 2.4 nautical miles off the island in 2005, thus, making it the only purpose-designed dive wreck in Australia where you can actually dive inside the engine and boiler rooms.
