Bribie Island, Sunshine Coast
Bribie Island
There are a lot of islands that make up Australia, but there’s only one that’s directly connected to the mainland. This is called Bribie Island. This island belongs to Sunshine Coast, Queensland. To get there, you can pass through the bridge that connects it to Moreton Bay. It is not as densely populated and visited compared to other cities, but it is catching up. It is a favorite among families since it’s not as well-developed as the others; thus, there are still plenty of trees, unspoiled beaches, and parks in the area.
There are a lot of things that you and your friends and family can do on the island. For one, you can explore the national park found there. Besides immersing yourself to the many trails, you can also bring your camping gear so you can spend overnight or even a series of nights near the beach. You can also opt to bring along your 4-wheel drive, provided that you can obtain a permit for one from the regional Council of Moreton Bay.
Of course, the island is filled with a lot of white sandy beaches. These include the ones that you can find in Bongaree or Bellara. Aside from several water activities that you can do like swimming, kayaking, or fishing, you can also watch or observe a huge congregation of migratory birds. There are also countless cafes, restaurants, and local markets that populate these areas. Bongaree is also famous for its heritage walk or more popularly known as the Bongaree Walkabout. This tour will take you to the different historical areas within the island. You can also pass by several local outlets, where you can purchase mementos and goodies. Maps and guides can be availed from the tourist information center in the island.
The body of water that separates the island from the mainland is called Pumicestone Passage. You can travel here by renting a charter or a boat when going to Birbie Island. This will also be an excellent way to get a beautiful and breathtaking view of the Glasshouse Mountains, where you can find a lot of fishermen resting. You can also make a stopover at the marine park. Most of all, you can participate in one of the most adventurous activities that you can do in Bribie Island. This is known as gliding. It will usually start in Caboolture Airfield, which is a few minutes away from Bribie. Nevertheless, make sure that you can only approach legitimate gliding centers.
Since a huge portion of the land is made up of forests, it would also be excellent to explore the area by taking a trek to the mountains or into the forests. You can opt for bush walking, or if you know how to bike, bring or rent one, so you can follow a biking trail. Normally, these paths will take you from one end of the island to the other. You can get the maps or guides from the Community Arts Center found in Sunderland Drive.
To experience Bribie Island at its best, there are many Bribie Island accommodation providers available to ensure all visitors enjoy a comfortable stay.
