Sarina is a town situated in the North Coast of Queensland, in Australia. It is home to several notable tourist attractions and, of course, the beaches that the country of Australia is famous for. These attractions are all at close proximity to the town itself, which unfortunately remains underdeveloped.
One of these attractions is the Salonika Beach. It is a beach located north of the city itself. The place is not only famous for its beach and holiday value, but also for the amazingly diverse marine life under its waters. In Salonika, holiday goers can find natural habitats of marine life such as loggerhead turtles, sea eagles and echidnas, as well as whales and dolphins. Read more...
People that are into diving and seeing marine wildlife will appreciate this beach.
From Salonika, you can easily get to the Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal. This is the terminal that holds the distinction as the largest coal export facility in the entire southern hemisphere of the world. The complex is not that far away. Salonika has a viewing gallery from where you can see the complex. The terminal shares use of the nearby Hay Point Port with the Hay Point Services Coal Terminal. Because of the presence of these two terminals, the port is considered the coal export port with the largest coal output.
Despite being underdeveloped, the town of Sarina is home to one of the region’s seasonal attractions and events. Sarina hosts the yearly Queensland Mud Trials. It is held in May of every year. This yearly event is known to attract a lot of visitors both from within and outside of Australia.
Sarina hosts three environmental parks in its jurisdiction. One of these is Cape Palmerston, which is a park encompassing 32 kilometers of coastline. In Cape Palmerston, you can find mangrove swamps, as well as sand dunes with a lot of vegetation. The cape is also home to the volcanic Mount Funnel Range, a coastal community located 41 meters above sea level. The two other parks are Mount Blarney and Mount Hector Environmental Parks.
Sarina’s economy is driven by the Plane Creek Mill and the Australia National Power Alcohol Co. Pty. Ltd. The distillery is one of the largest distilleries in the whole history, and was the first to open in 1927. The mill, on the other hand, provides the molasses that the company processes into industrial alcohol. Sarina, after all, was founded on the sugar industry back in the 1870s.
There are a lot of things that you can do during your visit to Sarina. For example, there are rainforests in the nearby Hinterland that you can visit. You can also visit the Great Barrier Reef, which is just off the coast. You can drop by the Greenmount Homestead as well. You can even check out a site that is reportedly a Phoenician landing area from over three millennia ago. Sarina is also a good site for fishing, and, in fact, there are dinghys that you can hire and fishing cruises that you can charter.
