Biggera Waters
One of the suburbs located in the city of the Golf Coast is Biggera Waters, named after the creek that runs through it. It is one of the suburbs facing the Broadwater estuary, and the South Pacific Ocean beyond. The place-name is a Yugambeh term for the red iron bark tree, Eucalyptus sideroploia. Nearby suburbs would be the Runaway Bay to the north and Labrador to the south.
One notable structure found in within the area is the 19th century heritage home called 'Finis' built on Land's End, the point where the Biggera Creek exits to the Broadwater.
At present times, some of the houses in Biggera Waters are situated right on the canal. However, most of the houses in this suburb enjoy proximity to the beaches, where there are a lot of opportunities for water sports and recreation. The promenade that runs through Biggera Waters is also a popular destination for walking, bicycling, and jogging, while several parks provide the perfect spots for relaxation with friends and families. Small shops and food stalls also dot the promenade.
Of all the tourist attractions found in this suburb, the beach is still the top destination for visitors and locals alike. Hundreds of visitors come to Gold Coast just to enjoy and relax on the long strip of beachfront in the city. Biggera Waters boasts of pristine sand beaches, ocean breeze, and sunny weather all year round and families flock to the beach to swim, build sandcastles, go sailing, or simply laze the day away under the sun. There are also several dining areas and bars found along the promenade that offers respite, cool drinks, and good food to its patrons.
Another big attraction in Biggera Waters and in other suburbs would be shopping. The suburb is home to the Harbour Town Shopping Centre, where aside from retail, visitors love to hang around in outdoor cafes and restaurants. Another option for nearby shopping destinations would be the Surfers Paradise, where an array of entertainment options is available, including a golf course. There is also the Runaway Bay Shopping Center up north.
Another great family destination within Biggera Waters would be the Treasure Island Holiday Park, a theme resort which offers amenities like basketball court, tennis courts, and a mini-golf course. Child-friendly attractions would include swimming pools with water slides and man-made waterfalls.
For visitors to Gold Coast, there are a lots of Biggera Waters accommodation available within the suburb and most are fronting or located near the waters. One of these is the Atrium Resort, in Taylor Street. Accommodation is also available at the Pelican Cove Apartments in Burrows Street, and at the Windsurfer Resort which is located right on the Broadwater. Biggera Waters is a good starting point for those wishing to visit all the other popular attractions in Gold Coast. Close to this suburb would be the Sea World marine park that features amusement rides, aquariums, Polar Bear exhibits, and the Shark Bay exhibit.
