Bundaberg, Central Coast, Queensland

The Bundaberg and the Coral Isles encompasses a multitude of great experiences and is a great holiday location that offers country, coast and island experiences. With its population of over 90,000, the region offers distinctly unique coral isles as well as an interesting mix of urban and rural experiences - all within reach from major cities in the Australian State of Queensland!

The Great Barrier Reef begins in the region of Bundaberg and Coral Isles. It features two coral cay islands - the Lady Musgrave and the Lady Elliot - with stunning coral reefs that fringe the shoreline. One can enjoy snorkelling, scuba diving or simple reef walk into the great wonders that line the island. Visitors can also try shore diving in the Woongarra Marine Park that sits right on the coastline of the Coral Coast. The 140 kilometre unspoiled beach stretch varies widely from surf beaches to calm waters. There are many estuaries that provide ideal locations for fishing.

Located right at the heart of this sugar cane country is the city of Bundaberg, or "Bundy" as it is commonly known to locals. It is a very progressive city that caters many excellent shopping areas, fine restaurants and various attractions that lie close at hand. The city also offers a wide range of accommodations to tourists and visitors - all types are available based on needs and preferences. Bundaberg boasts of some of the most beautiful beaches in the country such as those found in the townships of Innes Park, Elliott Heads and Burnett Heads. Southwards to Buxon are the sunspot fishing villages and the Woodgate with its abundant wildlife and national parks.

There are a number of natural and man-made attractions in Bundaberg that draws in a multitude of tourists from all over. The region is the home to over 15 National Parks. In fact, despite its small area, there are well over 500 hectares of park land to enjoy in, including the Alexandra Park with its rotunda dating back to the Victorian Era and its free zoo, as well as the Buss Park which is filled with greenery and seasonal flowers all throughout the year. There are many other sub-tropical gardens in the city that are well-loved and celebrated. In the eastern side of the city lies the Baldwin Swamp Environment Park which is home to various species of wildlife and birds. There are also walking tracks and boardwalks to enable people to view the tea tree or eucalypt forest and the lush vineyards. A relatively new attraction, the Bundaberg Botanical Garden showcases native and exotic plants and features the District Historical Museum within the garden.

Tourists also like visiting the Bundaberg Arts Centre and enjoying the attractions, markets, local products and specialty stores in the district. One can also enhance the visit by going to Poseidon's Seashells in Burnett Heads with the most amazing coral and sea shell craft ever. Dreamtime Reptile Reserve is available wherein tourists can safely look at all kinds of reptile species. Other favourite attractions include the river estuaries, the Bowl and Leisure Complex for family fun, or the Zone 3 with its amazing rides and wonderful pastime facilities.

The attractions in Bundaberg and the Coral Isles seem endless. There is just about everything for everyone. The ideal sub-tropical and mild climate in the area is very cooperative in giving visitors only the perfect holiday.
