The Ekka was originally named the Brisbane Exhibition, and after several name-changes, the Ekka is presently called the Royal Queensland Show and is held annually at the RNA Showgrounds in the suburb of Bowen Hills, 2 kilometers northeast of Brisbane CBD.

During its earlier days, the Ekka was primarily meant for exhibiting agricultural and industrial tools and appliances. People involved in agriculture and industry used to flock the place along with their latest inventions and artifacts. Cattle and other farm animals were displayed with aplomb.
