Penrith
Penrith is a suburb located in the western part of Sydney in New South Wales. It is situated on the eastern banks of the Nepean River and is part of the City of Penrith.
Like any typical Sydney suburb, Penrith has been undergoing significant growth and development in recent years. This growth is manifested in the establishment and subsequent expansion of the Westfield Penrith shopping mall, a major retail destination of suburb residents and those from surrounding areas.
Penrith is also the location of the oldest Museum of Fire in the country. Situated on Museum Drive, the establishment focuses on informing the public on the history and challenges of fire fighting, with displays of related equipments. It is also a leading fire safety advocate in the area, teaching individuals and touring groups on ways to prevent fires and on how to stop one from spreading.
A structure of historic and religious significance is the Saint Stephens Anglican Church on High Street. Also considered one of the oldest in the country, construction of the church started in 1837 in Gothic design. Visitors should also take time to visit the equally historic cemetery located at the back of the structure.
There is also a popular family destination located along Mulgoa Road, the Panthers World Of Entertainment. It bears the alternative name of the Penrith Leagues Club. With the Blue Mountains as backdrop, the area boasts of a golfing facility in the form of the Adventure Golf course, as well as venues for live entertainments and outdoor recreation. Another unique attraction within is the Aqua Golf Penrith, where prizes await those who hit the floating marks. On-site Penrith accommodation is also available for individuals and groups of people, while several restaurants provide wide range of menus and cuisines.
There are several man-made lakes within the suburb, made when quarries were flooded over as part of the Penrith Lakes Schemes. These lakes are popular swimming and water sports venues.
Another interesting destination is the Blue Mountains Honey Company on Peachtree Road. This bee farm offers several honey and beeswax products that visitors can take home. Tours are also available within the facility to increase awareness on the environmental and ecological importance of bees.
Another establishment offering treats to take home is the Sweets and Gourmet Treats along Cassola Place. Apart from selling products from its Fudge Factory, the shop also offer gourmet teas and coffees so visitors can linger for some time and sample its range of sugary and sugar-free products.
To test rock climbing skills, visitors should also swing by the Climbing Centre along Borec Road. This indoor facility features different kinds of climbs for enthusiasts of all levels. Birthday parties and corporate events can also be held here.
The Great River Walk provides opportunities for locals and visitors to enjoy the outdoors fully. This bushwalking activity allows one to view scenic landscapes along the Nepean River. There are also picnic tables and toilet facilities found along the way.
Every April, the local trucking society organizes the Penrith Working Truck Show at the Museum of Fire. This event is well attended by trucking enthusiasts and their family. This event is made complete by featuring amusements and offering food treats to participants and visitors.
