Vincentia is a town located in the South Coast region of New South Wales. It is situated on Jervis Bay, and is a popular holiday destination for those who wish to spend a few days in a pristine beach with clear ocean waters and refreshing breeze, in a community where all the needed facilities are available.
Apart from swimming, numerous water sports can also be enjoyed at the beach. There are visitors who wish to try surfing, jet skiing, snorkeling, and scuba diving during their stay in Vincentia. A number of hire companies along the beach provide the necessary equipment and sailing vessels.
The town also boasts of its own shopping center, where locals from nearby towns of Huskisson and Hyams Beach pay regular visits to.
Another urban leisure is enjoyed at the Vincentia Golf Club on Murray Street. With the coast and the nearby bushland as its backdrops, a round or two of golf will surely be a pleasant experience. Apart from golf, the establishment also offers gaming and convention facilities. There are also two restaurants within the premises.
There are several walking trails leading visitors around town, including the White Sands Walk and the Scribbly Gum track.
Vincentia shares its borders with the Booderee National Park Botanic Garden. The botanic garden, in particular, is a National Heritage site. Booderre is an Aboriginal word that translates to ‘bay of plenty’ or ‘plenty of fish.’ One section of the park, the Green Patch, features a spectacular beach that is worth visiting. Accessed through the Caves Beach Road, the park is a popular picnic and bird watching destination.
Those interested in local history, particularly the area’s early maritime industry, should head out to the Lady Denman Heritage Complex in Huskinsson.
Located on the corner of Woollamia Road and Dent Street, the complex’s most prominent attraction is the Maritime Museum, where items related to early navigation and surveying are showcased and displayed. The complex is designed to be a family-oriented destination where a fish feeding area and a mangrove boardwalk can be found. Facilities for picnics and barbecues are also available.
Another popular family destination is the Bay and Basin Leisure Centre on The Wool Road. Attractions include heated pools for adults and children, waterslide, sports shop, spa, gym, and café. With all its child friendly facilities, the center is also a favorite venue for children’s birthday parties.
During winter, locals and visitors converge to the nearby Huskinsson for the See Change Arts Festival. There are several musical performance, food and wine tasting, and, of course, art exhibits.
There are several accommodations offered in Vincentia, ranging from the affordable to luxury. On Albion Street is the Albion Sunrise Holiday Cottage and on Waldergrave Crescent there’s the Bella Villas of Jervis Bay. Both accommodations cost less than a hundred dollars for a night’s stay.
For those yearning for far more luxurious and private facilities, the Vinson House is available. This particular accommodation can be rented by up to ten persons for more than $2000 per night.
