
Lake Conjola is a small town located in the South Coast region of New South Wales, situated on the edge of the lake bearing the same name. The lake is connected to the Pacific Ocean via a sandy channel. The place-name was derived from an Aboriginal name of a certain fish found in the area.
The lake is a popular tourist destination, with the availability of numerous accommodations and facilities for water sports. The lake is ideal for surfing, sailing, canoeing, and water skiing. Lake Conjola is a favorite destination for avid fishermen, with the lake having ample supply of fish stocks. A day’s catch commonly consists of flathead, bream, blackfish, and tailor fish. Prawns are also harvested in season and most are sold to nearby seafood restaurants.
The coastal beach is a short distance away from the town center and is accessed through a boardwalk. Along the way are several scenic views and spots that are worth stopping for. The pristine stretch of sand near Lake Conjola is ideal for swimming, snorkeling, surfing, and fishing.
A short drive to the village of Bendalong takes visitors to additional beaches, particularly the Boat Harbour & Washerwoman's beaches. Some of the beaches in the area become virtually empty after the holidays and those who happen to visit during these times may even have the beaches to themselves, affording much needed rest and relaxation.
Much of the lake is bordered by the Conjola National Park, where natural attractions await those adventurous enough to explore it. Several walks within the park take visitors to a number of vantage points that provide spectacular scenery. The park is home to numerous bird species, making it ideal for bird watching. Lucky individuals may also get to glimpse some of the animals in the park. The edges of the park touching the lakeshore are ideal settings for picnics and barbecues.
Lake Conjola has several caravan parks to accommodate the annual influx of holidaymakers. One of these is the Lake Conjola Entrace Tourist Park. Apart from accommodations, the park also offers equipments for water sports, as well as provides ramps for boats. The park also has facilities for tennis, cricket, and volleyball. Children are also provided with their own playgrounds.
The area around the town and the lake has several accommodations that visitors can choose from. There’s the Milton Country Cottages on Egans Farm Lane in Yatte Yattah, The Long Weekend Retreat, and Hannah’s Haus. Most of these establishments charge more than a $100AU for a night’s stay.
