Mullumbimby is a town in the Byron Shire, about 10 kilometers from the coast. It is located within the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales and situated at the foot of Mount Chincogan. The place-name was derived from an Aboriginal word translating to 'small round hill', an allusion to the nearby mountain.

During the 1960s, the town was much associated with alternative lifestyles or counter culture, though there is little in its present appearance to indicate this colorful and unique past.

One popular outdoor destination of Mullumbimby is the Brunswick Valley Heritage Park, accessed via the corner of Brunswick Terrace and Tyagarah Street. This park is actually a reserve that has a walking path that allows visitors to take strolls under the shade of its numerous trees, most of them easily identified by labels. The park is also situated along the river, affording some nice scenic views.

There are also several walking trails across the town and the paths are outlined on a notice board found on Burringbar Street. One of these trails lead to Azalea Street, where the Pioneer Lookout is located. Here, visitors are afforded spectacular views of the river and surrounding farmlands.

A short drive south of the town will lead visitors to Minyon Drive, where the Minyon Falls is accessed. There are picnic and recreation facilities found near the falls. All around is the Minyon Falls Flora Reserve, considered to be of high scenic and scientific value to the area. There is also a walking trail that will lead visitors to yet another attraction, the Quandong Falls.

For those wishing to catch a glimpse or two of koalas, the Rummery Park is their ideal destination. Accessed via the Peates Mountain Road, the park features facilities for picnics and camping while a walking trail leads to a lookout that provides scenic views all around.

There are also several points of interests located within the town itself. For those wishing to familiarise themselves with the area's local history, they should head out to the Brunswick Valley Historical Society Museum on Stuart Street. The museum will provide clues on just how the area was originally inhabited by Aborigines and subsequently settled by Europeans.

Another interesting Mullumbimby destination for visitors is the Crystal Castle, accessed via the Monet Drive. This unique building actually showcases numerous types of natural and artificial crystals that will surely bedazzle the visitors. There is also a beautiful garden on its grounds, and since it is located atop a small hill, beautiful views can be enjoyed in all directions. The venue also has another major attraction, the 4-meter high Blessing Buddha situated on its own pond. The Crystal Castle complex also incorporates a restaurant, a playground for children, an arts gallery, and tarot card readings.

For those looking for something uniquely Mullumbimby to take home, a visit to The Mullum Chocolate Shop should be on the list of itineraries. Located on Dalley Street, there are numerous chocolate treats to choose from, some of them imported from other countries. The shop also offers catering services for special events like weddings and birthdays.

The town celebrates the Mullumbimby Chincogan Fiesta every September with a celebrated foot race to the summit of the nearby mountain. The town markets is also held every third Saturday of the month, where everybody converge to display and trade the local produce and wares. To experience Mullumbimby at its best, there are many Mullumbimby accommodation providers available to ensure all visitors enjoy a comfortable stay.
