Casuarina Beach, Northern Rivers
Casuarina Beach
Casuarina Beach is actually a luxury residential community located in the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales. It is bounded in the by the towns of Kingscliff in the north and Bogangar in the south. The Tweed Coast Road runs along this beachfront community that is slowly gaining recognition as an ideal tourist destination in the area.
It should be worthy to note that Casuarina Beach have been the recipient of several tourism and heritage awards, including one given by the New South Wales Department of Sustainable Natural Resources.
The waters and wind conditions at Casuarina Beach is perfect for surfing. In fact, the Surf School within the community provides useful instructions and tips for beginners and first-timers. The school also offers skill development courses for those with advanced surfing experiences.
However, the beach is also an ideal setting for picnics and barbecues, as well as swimming and fishing. Canoes and kayaks can also be hired by the more rigorous individuals wishing to have some unique water sport experience.
One good way to get acquainted with the community is to take the Architectural Walk. Either on foot or riding a bike, the walk takes visitors to twelve homes fronting the beach that are recognised by the whole community for their architectural and structural excellence. These homes are identified through the steel plaques placed on letterboxes. All these contemporary residential structures exhibit what the Australian coastal life is all about and perhaps lure any appreciative visitor to come and live in this newly built community.
Another socially relevant walk featured in Casuarina Beach is the Sculpture Walk. The sculptures featured in this particular attraction are entries to the competition organised by the Tweed Shire Art Gallery, the Tweed Shire Council, and Casuarina Beach community. Most of these sculptures have been made within the seven years that this competition has been organized. The primary aim of this project is to promote the role of public art in urban development. All the sculptures are installed in the boardwalk and can be freely viewed.
During November, Casuarina Beach celebrates its Ocean Festival, when different activities and events designed for the whole family are held. Among these events are art exhibits, food sampling, and music performances.
For those wishing to experience the natural attractions offered in the surrounding areas, the Cudgen Nature Reserve is a good place to start. Located south and accessed through the Tweed Coast Road, this reserve is actually composed of the Cudgen Lake and the Round Mountain. The lake is ideal for canoeing and boating. The areas around the lake have been recognized as having strong Aboriginal ties, with the discovery of an Aboriginal stone quarry. There are facilities for picnics and paths for bushwalking within the reserve. Visitors should also keep an eye out for resident wildlife, including several koalas calling the area home.
Further south, accessed via the Princes Highway, is the Pioneer Plantation, an agricultural tourism site composed of a banana plantation, restaurant, wildlife sancturary, walking tracks, and gardens. Six-wheel drives are also available to the top of the Banana Mountain.
