
The region of Riverina lies in the southern part of New South Wales and includes the lower and middle reaches of the renowned Murrumbidgee River Valley. This area is highly agricultural and is set distinct to other Australian regions because of its warm to hot climate, flat plains and ample water supply for irrigation purposes. The Narrandera is a river town where the beautiful Lake Talbot canoeing and swimming complex is based, and is the gateway to the Riverglades which is home to a koala reserve, red cliffs and a number of rivergum trees. The towns of Griffith, Deniliquin and Lexton are beautiful farming regions rich in picturesque sceneries.
Riverina is situated right between the urban cities of Melbourne and Sydney. In fact, many visitors from these cities and other areas in the country come here to enjoy gliding, canoeing, skydiving, white water rafting, water skiing, horse riding, biking tours and hot air ballooning for those who are more adventurous. For those who are not as adventurous, one can enjoy its renowned wineries, museums, art galleries, botanical gardens (such as the historic Yabtree and the Burnbank Gardens) or simply stroll around the many beautiful historical villages and through its many heritage town walks. Tourists can also go fruit picking in many peach, grape and apple farms, or study the flora and the fauna around the bushwalk.
There are a number of national parks to explore in the Riverina region. Its unique wildlife, cultural festivals, and uniquely ancient aboriginal culture draw thousands of visitors each year. The town of Tumut offers an easy access to the Yarrangobilly Caves and the Kosciusko National Park which are both world renowned.
The region is perfectly bound together by an exciting network of country towns with grand old pubs and wide streets. Riviera is not just about good food and fine wines, but going to the Riverina is more about experiencing the unique connection of the region with nature and the land. The Riverina area lies in the temperate zone such that the climate in the area is mostly free from extreme heat and cold. It is considered to lie along the hot dry zone. The region is relatively hot in the summer and can be very cold in the winter. Rainfall levels, however, are generally low and rains fall mostly in the winter.
