The region of Riverina lies in the southern part of New South Wales and includes the lower and middle reaches of the renowned Murrumbidgee River Valley. In fact, Riverina has, through the years, developed into the most agriculturally productive areas in Australia.

The Riverina area lies in the temperate zone such that the climate in the area is mostly free from extreme heat and cold. It is considered to lie along the hot dry zone. The region is relatively hot in the summer and can be very cold in the winter. Rainfall levels, however, are generally low and rains fall mostly in the winter.
