Lake Macquarie is a city in eastern New South Wales, located at the coast north of Sydney. The city is fairly large, surrounding a body of water also known as Lake Macquarie. Connected to the ocean by a narrow channel, this saltwater lake is a favorite recreation destination of the city's residents and that of nearby metropolitan Newcastle.
