The region of Central New South Wales is just three scenic hours by car from Sydney. This quaint region is composed of heritage historical towns, the interestingly unusual rock formations, cultural festivals and country events, aboriginal culture and the finest arts. The region is an agricultural centre and is proud to be the area where gold was first discovered in Australia.

Tourists who visit the Central NSW region are chanced to experience this little world that has remained more or less preserved for decades now - with Victorian market towns and various Federation homesteads still in existence. The Central New South Wales are home to 14 national parks and rich nature reserves that one can discover.

There are a wide variety of historic, scenic and cultural places to visit in Central New South Wales. Going into the North Central NSW area, one will experience the cities of Tamworth, the country's music capital, and Armidale, which is home to a remarkable heritage area. Other interesting places in the northern area include the Coolah Tops and Warrumbungle National Parks with its waterfalls, giant trees, forest drives and rich wildlife. Tourists also flock towards Moree, the country's spa capital and Tenterfield for its rich gemfields.

In the middle area of Central New Wales are justly famous for its nature reserves, its historic sites and national parks. Some of the must see places in the area include Dubbo with its renowned Dubbo Zoo, the Goulburn and Weddin Mountain Parks, and the Parkes with its gold mines, fishing and camping facilities. Towards the south of Central NSW lie the equally famous Koonadan Historic Site, the Cocoparra National Park and the Oolambeyan.

From the gold rush towns of Hill End and Sofala to the remote cattle and sheep stations, Central NSW provides is tourists with the unforgettable bush experience in a site where history comes most alive before your eyes. There are also opportunities to explore the underground through the renowned Abercrombie and Wellington Caves as well as the Phosphate Mine. Observatories in the region are also available for space lovers and children.

The rich history of the region is obvious in its architecture - from the humble huts to the most lavish mansions and hotels built during the farming and gold booms in the region. The towns of Ophir, Sofala and Gulgong are windows to the pioneering past. The Central NSW doesn't stop there, however. Visitors can choose between a variety of activities which include bird and wildlife watching, fishing, nature walks or simply enjoy the breathtaking views. After a day of exploration around the wide spaces, one can sample the exquisite food, luscious wine and the hospitality of the folks, most especially Orange-Cowra-Mudgee districts.

All throughout the region, there are a number of hotels, bed and breakfasts, caravan parks, motels, and historic pubs. Most of the national parks provide caravan and camping sites, with excellent facilities. The cities and towns do not only provide a wide range of accommodation and recreational sites, but has a year long schedule of cultural festivals, shows and fairs to entertain its visitors.

The inhabitants of Central New South Wales enjoy four very distinct seasons. The crisp winters have occasional snows, and are followed by the beautiful bloom of spring before the summer heats up the region. The region is most beautiful in autumn with its golden foliage seen all throughout its beautiful parks, streetscapes and country gardens.
