Terrigal, Central Coast Region — New South Wales

Terrigal is a thriving suburb of Gosford City located in the Central Coast region of New South Wales. It is a popular holiday destination for people who wish to indulge in its cosmopolitan and sophisticated ambience. Terrrigal is known to offer both rural and urban leisure to all types of tourists who frequent this coastal suburb.

One of its main attractions is Terrigal Beach, an unbroken stretch of sand 4 kilometers long which provides setting for all kinds of water sports and recreation. Some visitors also come here to swim, sunbathe, or just enjoy the sun and the ocean breeze.

Another stretch of sand is found on Forresters Beach, north of Wamberal Point. It is a popular destination for hand-gliding enthusiasts, as well as those seeking some quiet place to enjoy the breeze and the views.

The Wyrrabalong National Park extends from the southern end of the Bateau Bay to several hectares inland. The coastal part of the park boasts of rich marine life, with mangrove areas that are frequented by birds. The park has two lookouts, the Wyrrabalong Lookout on Cromarty Hill and the Crackneck Lookout. Both afford spectacular views of the park and its surrounding areas.

Perhaps the suburb is most associated with ‘The Skillion,’ a rocky outcrop considered as Terrigal’s most famous landmark. This attraction is located on a preserved area in the eastern part of the suburb. Some visitors often make the climb to the top, where the view is spectacular. This outcrop is breathtaking in itself, especially when viewed during sunrise.

Another popular tourist destination is the Terrigal Lagoon, where paddleboats and canoes can be hired from several hire services located at Rotary Park, the designated area around this particular body of water. Most locals frequent the park to do some walking, jogging, bicycling, and hold picnics under the shade of trees.

Terrigal also boasts of another nearby lagoon, the Wamberal Lagoon, which is located behind the northern beach. This area is a protected reserve for birds and animals, and avid nature lovers can enjoy them from vantage points along the Remembrance Drive.

For those interested in sampling the bounty of the coastal waters near Terrigal, they can charter boats and fishing vessels from different hire companies based within and near the suburb. Equipments for scuba diving and snorkeling can also be rented.
