The city is home to the Australian War Memorial and the Captain Cook Memorial while the National Gallery of Australia, the National Museum of Australia and the National Portrait Gallery are several of its interesting destinations. The Canberra Theatre and Playhouse is the usual venue for concerts and theater productions in the city. Other visual arts performances are held at the Llewellyn Hall, The Albert Hall, and The Street Theatre.

Families with small children often spend hours exploring the National Dinosaur Museum, the National Zoo and Aquarium, the CSIRO Discovery Centre, and the Questacon-the National Science and Technology Centre. There are also several historically significant structures that history lovers can explore, such as the homesteads at the Tuggeranong Valley. One of the most well-known and prominent structures in the city is the Old Parliament House, which is surrounded by formal gardens filled with roses of varied types and colors.

Those seeking to enjoy the outdoors do not have to venture far. The Canberra Nature Park is an extensive reserve with numerous hiking and biking trails. The park is actually composed of several smaller parks that provide urban spaces for outdoor recreation. Within the Canberra Nature Park are the Jerrabomberra Wetlands that provide homes for numerous waterbirds, the historically-significant Remembrance Nature Park, the Black Mountain, the Pinnacle Nature Trail, and several other interesting destinations. Picnic-goers also have the option of going to Gibraltar Falls, where several amenities are located at the edge of a forested area.

There are also numerous restaurants serving various cuisines and menus all over Canberra. Cafes are also frequented by those who want to enjoy a delicious cup of coffee by themselves or with friends and loved ones. The city also comes alive during nighttime, when locals and tourists converge to numerous clubs and bars. Various accommodations ensure each visitor will have a place to stay all year through.

Residents and tourists often converge to Canberra during specific times of the year when festivals are held. In April, the ANZAC Day is celebrated to commemorate an important event in the nation’s military history. Other festivities include the Floriade which is held every Spring when flowers will begin to bloom and the city becomes festive again, and the Summernats Car Festival that is organized every January along with Australia Day. Music lovers from all over the region and the country also visit the city to take part of the Canberra International Music Festival, usually held every May.
